The uPCI Single-Channel Parallel/Serial Interface Card, 2 Port, uses a UART chip that features programmable baud rate, data format, and interrupt control with 128-byte FIFO. It's just like the UART chip found in an IBM asynchronous adapter.

The serial port can be set as COM1 or COM2, providing total compatilbilty with most communications software and languages. RS-232 or R2-422/485 drivers and receivers are provided on the serial port. RS-422 enables very long-distance communications with virtually error-free differential drive characteristics.
